An Ode to Motherhood

Hey, girl, hey! Did you see my featured image of my firstborn and me? He finna be ten soon! 😩🥹

Being a mama is holy work and shouldn’t be taken for granted. We are not the same as we were before we had children, but the depths of who we are shouldn’t be lost, either. In this ode, I’m celebrating who I am on this journey, but you'd better believe I’m going to keep betting on me. I hope you do, too.

An Ode to My Motherhood Journey

Candi girl, no one gave you a manual
nor fully told you what to expect—
the highs, the lows, the blows, the ebb
and flow of this blessed gift called, “Motherhood.”

And yet, here you are,
I mean, here I am, here I stand
Three boys deep, ten years in,
And if asked, I’d absolutely do it again.

Fears and tears,
feeling without a village.
But two, then four, and six eyes looked into my soul
Longing to know if I’m okay.

Man, what a joy this journey has been
And those who didn’t know me
Never knew my heart and my dreams to be in
This hood. Thank You, Abba, for answered prayers.

And Zoë’s not here yet,
but these Warrior Princes make my heart sing,
reminding me of how much my Abba trusts me
to birth Kings.

I’ve changed from being the
girl I was when I got married.
Because birthing them birthed me
to be the mother Warrior Queen

that they needed to temper,
train, and teach them to follow
His lead, because He placed inside of me
the heart of a mother.
