Homeschooling: The Beautiful Chaos of Teaching at Home
Hey, girl, hey! Whoever said homeschooling was all sunshine, perfectly sharpened pencils, and peaceful learning clearly hasn't spent a morning in my house! 😂
Today’s poem is a Petrarchan (Italian) sonnet about homeschooling. Fourteen lines, a specific rhyme scheme, and that bald-headed iambic pentameter (don’t worry; bald is fiercely beautiful—but not when describing this metered rhyme)!
But somewhere between the chaos, the curriculum, and the unexpected musical moments, there's a beautiful reminder of why I love this journey.
Enjoy!🥰

How do I homeschool? Breathwork first, then pray.
The sun's still dark; slowly I hit the floor.
I hope for peace but, "Mom" cries out once more
I sigh and smile; we break into the day.
I start to teach, but toddler wants to play
He bangs the drums, one finishes his chore
The second born's more focused than before.
The lesson slightly seems well on its way.
The toddler starts to sing a ditty tune
That ties the reading lesson to the Word
The oldest adds a sound that makes me swoon
The second’s dulcet—sweetest sound I’ve heard
My heart begins to soar straight through the roof
Homeschool’s the best, our souls have all been stirred.
