Poetic Counseling
Hey, girl, hey! It’s officially October 6th, the 6th day of our daily poetry challenge. I hope your poetic journey has been both reassuring and telling, as it’s been for me. Today also marks one year since I started counseling, and I dedicate this Shakespearean/English sonnet to that.
Therapy
This time last year I jumped into the boat,
The waves had stirred in deeper waters. Still,
I grabbed the helm, “Hello,” I faintly croaked,
Tears pooling, heaven’s wells they quickly filled.
Each time we faced the fears of yesterday
That stalked my heart. Light burned away its shame.
I paused to breathe and snatch the dust away
As Yah gave life and said, again, my name.
A year has passed, and Yah has smiled on me.
Not who I was, but where He’s guiding me on.
It’s not becoming, but who Yah made me be
As I listen to my own redemption song.
Waves of mercy, waves of grace renewed
As I dance and sing of Love carrying me through.
